On January 12, 2010, the Hôpital Adventist d'Haïti (HAH) found itself just a few miles from the epicenter of a fierce 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Since that time, Loma Linda University's Global Health Institute has been working with Adventist Health International to send teams of volunteer health professionals to HAH with the goal of providing continuous medical care to thousands of Haitians affected by this crisis.
Now, LLU students have an opportunity to help the people of Haiti. During spring break 2011, SIMS hopes to take a team of students to the hospital to provide a wide variety of healthcare and logistical support. The team’s activities may include:
- providing occupational/physical therapy
- providing of dental care
- offering health education
- supporting community mental health programs at the nearby IDP camp
- sorting and organizing large quantities of donated medical and pharmaceutical supplies
- providing logistical support to the hospital
- conducting a hospital-wide supply and equipment inventory
- conducting a general clean-up of the hospital campus
- helping with maintenance and construction projects
Please join us as we continue to support the recovery efforts at the Haiti Adventist Hospital.
